Bruce cut his teeth as a lad fixing his own bikes thanks to belonging to a family devoid of mechanical ability! Confidence increased due to a noticeable practical aptitude, and, with the advent of motorcycles as a teenager, he ended up fixing other peoples' blessed motor vehicles as well as his own.
A qualified and occasional tree surgeon, Bruce now concentrates on his cycling work which started when he spotted an advert for ‘Bike for Life’s’ predecessor, ‘Cycle Training South East’, in summer 2000, when the fledgling company first started. This led to work as an on-road cycle proficiency instructor, recently rebranded as ‘Bikeability’ by the government in order to improve national standards.
At Bike for Life, we noted that numerous people avoid cycling due to a lack of mechanical confidence, so we decided to start bike repair courses to redress this problem. These have proven popular and are run on three levels to suit all abilities. Many participants have asked for a recommended mechanic and Get-a-fix Cycles was birthed in response in August 2006. |
